RAILWAY INFORMATION

Local councils do have some information about communities located within their boundaries. You can access this information through the Local Council site through the link found on Local Information Section of this site.

Alstonville is is a modern township on the rich volcanic soils, inland from Ballina. A feature of its landscape is the extensive coverage of Tibouchina, which produces a purple covering when in season. Originally a rich sub-tropical area known as the Big Brush, only small pockets of the forest now remain. One such location is the Victoria Park Nature Reserve where a variety of the original plant life such as white booyong, bumpy ash and red been can still be found. The area is renownded for its tropical fruits with a special tropical fruit research station located on the eastern edge of the town.
