The Victoria Hotel was built as a hotel, but initially the CBC Bank opened it as a bank. In 1894, 18th April, was held up and the Manager, Mr McKay was shot dead. The bushrangers were subsequently caught, Alex Lee and John Cummins were hung after being convicted of the crime. These two bushrangers were the first to be hung in Tamworth. After shooting the manager, the bushrangers heard his wife in the dining room and shot twice through the door at her, but missed her. The bullet holes are still in the door today!
