RAILWAY INFORMATION

Local councils do have some information about communities located within their boundaries. You can access this information through the Local Council site through the link found on Local Information Section of this site.

Boggabilla is a small rural community just a few kilometres below the Queensland Border. It lies on the junction of the Newell and Bruxner Highways, 13Km from Goondiwindi (Qld) and 95Km north of Moree. It is 769Km north west of Sydney.

The village has a population of 639, with many people employed in agriculture, it's major industry. Sheep, beef cattle, cotton and wheat are major agricultural properties and a large wheat silo is located in the village which draws wheat from a large catcment area where it can then be transported by rail to either Newcastle or Sydney. Moves are in progress to take the rail link across the border and join with the Queensland rail system to allow access to Brisbane.

The name Boggabilla is an aboriginal word that means Great Chief Born Here

The village has a large aboriginal community and some of its art work can be seen on the premises of one of the commercial buildings of the village (see photograph in the Photo Gallery).

There is also an education campus with a difference (see Education under Community) where the primary, secondary and TAFE education buildings are located on the one campus.
