The L P Dutton Trout Hatchery
The L P Dutton Trout Hatchery is located 3Km in on the road into the New England National Park, 25Km south from Ebor along the Waterfall Way and 75Km from Armidale. The hatchery was developed in 1925 by the late Les Dutton near Guyra but was transfered to its present location on the Serpentine River in 1949 to ensure a more reliable water supply.

The main breeding programme is for the Rainbow Trout with broodsTOPk being kept for most of the year in earth brood ponds. The hatchery breeds around two million trout fry every year and these are then dispersed throughout the New England area with the assistance from local fishing clubs.

Visiting hours at the hatchery are from 9am to 4pm everyday except Christmas Day and Good Friday. A small admission charge applies for tours, which include an short introductory film about the hatchery and its role.. Further details can be obtained on phone (02) 6775 9139 or by facsimile on (02) 6775 9186.
