Wean Picnic Races

Gunnedah is an exciting place to visit. A special town tour has been designed to allow the visitor a chance to see all the attractions of the township. The tour commences at the Visitor Information Centre (located on the Oxley Highway just across the railway overpass and on the right - located opposite the swimming complex and next to the Gunnedah Museum) where a detailed brochure on exactly where the tour goes is available. Take your time on the drive to appreciate all the aspects of Gunnedah. There is a total of 36 signs for the tour.

Keepit Dam

Many visitors to Gunnedah will want to take the time to visit one of the earliest major water storage dams in Australia. Keepit Dam lies just 30Kms to the east of Gunnedah on the Oxley Highway. In addition to the Dam itself, the recreational features are worth the visit with sailing, boating, water sports and fishing just some of the attractions of Lake Keepit.

Gunnedah Watertower Museum

The Watertower Museum is a fine example of using a feature no longer required. This former town water storage facility has been effectively refurbished to house the historical records of the district. Visitors should also take time to visit the Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Centre and the Cumbo Gunnerah Gallery.

The month of August sees the town grow considerably in population as the Ag Quip Agricultural Field Days are run. This 3 day event brings millions of dollars worth of agricultural equipment and services to the town for display to the entire nation.

Gunnedah is also renowned for its wild life and a large Koala population inhabits the area. Many nature walks can be found around the town and the district which are a must for those wanting to see some of Australia's unique native life.
