Australia Telescope
The Australia Telescope is located 24Km to the west of Narrabri. Once you follow the road in to the centre, you will come to the Visitors Centre which allows you access to a large range of information in the form of videos and displays. The centre is open 7 days a week from 8am to 4pm with staff being present on wekdays and school holidays to help you appreciate the facility more.

The telescope was opened in 1988 and is host to visiting astronomers from all over the world who come to use the most powerful radio telescope in the southern hemishpere to further their knowledge.

Each of the 5 mobile antennas at the main site weighs 270 tonnes and these can be placed in any format along the 3Km of track. A sixth antenna, located 3Km away, has its own short track. Together they can be used to create a telescope with a 6Km diameter.

For group bookings and enquiries telephone (02) 6790 4070 or mail them at Locked Bag 194, Narrabri.
