The prime purpose of the dam is for water storage for agricultural purposes with much of the wate being used for the cotton industry. However, it is also open for public recreation such as fishing and water sports. Boat ramps enable boat owners ease of access to the water. There are also camping, caravan and picnic facilities available to the public.
