Coonamble Childrens Services Inc.

Do you need in home childcare?

Coonamble Children's Services is brokering a new, flexible type of childcare service funded by the Commonwealth government. The service will be available to families in the Coonamble Shire area where conventional services are unable to meet a family's specific needs.

What is In home Care?

Short term, emergency or ongoing care provided in the child's home by an approved carer. Care is monitored and supported by an approved agency to ensure a quality service for children. In home care operates in a very similar way to existing Family Day Care services. You can even request 24-hour care, although it is available on a short-term basis only.

Who can use it?

In home care enables parents to access childcare when other services cannot meet their needs. This may be due to a number of factors outlined under the priority of access criteria. Each situation is considered and approved separately for a period up to 12 months.

How much does it cost?

Families using In home care may apply for childcare benefit to help pay a portion of their fees. Fees are negotiated with the carer depending on the number of children and can be per hour or a flat daily rate. In other areas parents are paying approx. $10-15 per hour (less with the government subsidy) for care for two children. There is a minimum 3-hour booking. Any additional costs such a travel to and from the parent's home, meals and outings are to be negotiated between the parent and carer and are not eligible for government subsidy.

How many children can be cared for?

Generally, it is recommended that up to four children under school age or up to 7 children under 12 years can be looked after by one carer. Exceptional circumstances will be considered on an individual basis. Children from outside the current household or visitors cannot be cared for by the In Home Caregiver. Carers own children may be given permission to accompany the carer but this must be agreed by both the parent and the service provider.

Who are the In Home carers?

Carers will be recruited from our local area. They will work flexible hours and are trained and monitored by licensed Child Care providers. They will have first aid qualifications and insurance, and will have undergone stringent recruitment procedures. The Carers will be part of a team of local child care workers providing a valuable community service.
