The Gibralter Ranger National Park lies on the Gwydir Highway, 70Kms east of Glen Innes and 95Km west of Grafton. Driving along the highway will give the traveller a magnificient view of the park, with two lookouts, Heffrons and Hills, offering some magnificient views. Stopping at both of these needs care as the highway can be quite busy but there is ample parking off the road.
Departing from the highway will give the visitor some magnificient views of deep gorges carved into the granite landscape. This produces some sensational rok features such as The Needles and Anvil Rock. The park connect directly with the Washpool and Nymboida National Parks
Camping facilities (with a charge) are available at Mulligan Hut and there is a 120Km walk that takes you through the rainforest, sub-alpine heaths, open woodland and sedgelands. The park blloms with waratah during October and November and there are many creeks and waterfalls to view throughout the park.
Two views of the Gibralter Range National Park. The views from the two lookouts, Heffrons and Hills are also available. |
