Tenterfield School of Arts

The School of Arts in Tenterfield stands as a national memorial to one of the towering figures of 19th Century politics in New South Wales.... Sir Henry Parkes.

This building was the venue for Parkes' famous Tenterfield speech of October 24, 1889 - which set in motion the popular movement resulting in Australian Federation of January 1, 1901.

In 1957 the School of Arts was acquired by the National Trust, and today it contains a significant collection of Parkes relics, including a fine portrait by Julian Ashton.
