Located just 15 minutes north of Tamworth on the New England Highway, the district is also a rich alluvial agricultural region with lucerne, fruit and vegetables being the major products.
Just to the south of Kootingal and lying on the New England Highway is the local Planetarium. For the budding and not so budding studiers of the stars, this is well worth a stop over.
Kootingal also has a a number of heritage buildings. The best known of these is the centre piece of the local retirment village, Moonby House and is well worth a visit.
The Pumpkin Festival is a major event on the Kootingal calendar each year and draws people from all over the world to the event. Please visit our Pumpkin Festival website.
If you know of a local history site that services this community but is not listed here, or would like to use this site to promote your local history, please Email us (using the button at the bottom of this page) and let us know the details, including the community to which you are referring.
